Portsmouth Middle School expansion project delayed

The $37.5 million expansion and renovation of Portsmouth Middle School has hit a snag. During Phase 2 of the project, which involves remodeling the original school building built in 1930, workers have found that the walls are not as structurally sound as expected. The renovation will now require the addition of more support for the walls As a result, sixth-graders won’t be able to move into the third floor of the renovated wing in February as planned, and Phase 3 of the project, the construction of a connector building between the new wing and the old building, may be delayed.
