City officials recently announced a major upgrade to Everett's computerized accounting system. Vadar, the auditing software currently used by the city, is being replaced by another program, SoftRight. The goal is to increase the efficiency of the city's fiscal management. "Vadar, while fine for smaller operations, is just too limited to handle a municipal budget like ours," Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. said. "With $140 million budget to maintain, we need to have software that will simplify municipal tasks while increasing precision and productivity." Officials say the new system, now in use in more than 100 communities in Massachusetts, will enable the city to manage all the financial operations of the city and the School Department in a single integrated system.
