Lowell General Hospital expansion celebrated

Lowell General Hospital recently celebrated the opening of a new Emergency Department and Trauma Center, commemorating the completion of the Legacy Project, a $95 million expansion of the hospital’s main campus on Varnum Avenue. Hospital officials have said the new center will be capable of handling 75,000 patient visits per year, up from 35,000. The Legacy Project was a major renovation program that included a six-story, 200,000-square-foot expansion. Features include two new 30-bed inpatient medical surgical units, additional operating rooms and surgical suites, expanded birthing and maternity areas, the revamped emergency department, and the addition of a helipad to support the Level III Trauma Center.
