Stoneham to receive $69,000 for public housing renovations

The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development has announced that Stoneham will be among 33 housing authorities to receive funding for renovations to vacant public housing units. Stoneham is in line to receive just over $69,000 to improve the kitchens and bathrooms in three two-bedroom units on Washington Avenue. The three units, which have been vacant for the better part of a year, will provide much-needed low-cost housing. The town currently has a waiting list with more than three dozen names on it. Local officials must complete the work and have new tenants in the units by March 31  to receive the state funding that was allocated on Dec. 6 to the Stoneham Housing Authority. Statewide, $2.2 million in funding was awarded to renovate approximately 200 units.
