Tractor donated to help with trail maintenance

The town will have an easier time maintaining the Danvers Rail Trail now that it has a lawn tractor. The tractor, which will be used for grooming and upkeep of the trail shoulders, was purchased by the Rail Trail Advisory Committee through its nonprofit partner, the Friends of Danvers Recreation. The rail trail is an evolving recreational corridor that is being created along 4.3 miles of abandoned rail beds from the Peabody line to the Wenham line. The funds for the tractor came from a program in which local businesses and individuals sponsor mileage markers along the trail. The advisory committee officially gave the tractor to the town during a recent selectmen’s meeting. It is being stored by the Department of Public Works near the town’s Hobart Street parking lot, offering easy access to the trail at its approximate midpoint. The town plans to train volunteers to operate the tractor.
