Kassner appointed town’s planning director

The Planning Board recently appointed Kristin Kassner as  the town’s new planning director, subject to reaching a contract agreement. Kassner is Burlington’s senior planner and has been interim planning director since Oct. 4. She would succeed Anthony Fields, who resigned Sept. 28 as to become planning director in Billerica. Kassner has worked for the town for 10 years, starting as an intern, then rising to become assistant planner and then senior planner. Kassner was selected from among 11 candidates and three finalists for the job, according to board chairman Paul F. Roth. Noting that the two other finalists were from out of state, Roth said Kassner’s knowledge of Massachusetts law and land use in this state was a factor in her selection. He also cited her 10 years working for the planning office, saying that “preserving that experience and knowledge was vitally important.”
