A new ice rink in Somerville is allowing for the city to extend public skating hours. The rink — which opened in September on Somerville Avenue, near Veterans Memorial Rink, and has not yet been named — will host a grand opening ceremony in January, according to an announcement from the city. The extended free public skating hours are as follows: Veterans Memorial Rink: Monday and Friday, noon to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, noon to 2 p.m. and 3:45 to 5 p.m. New rink: Tuesday and Thursday, 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.; Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday hours at both rinks will be posted weekly at the Somerville Recreation Department’s  website, www.somervillerec.com.
