Special election called to replace Stacie Laughton as state representative

The Board of Aldermen has approved a special election to replace Ward 4 state Representative-elect Stacie Laughton. Laughton was to be the state’s first openly transgender state representative, but she relinquished her seat after news surfaced that she had committed several felonies in Laconia in 2008 under the name Barry Charles Laughton Jr. Aldermen authorized spending $1,990 for an election to be held Feb. 19 at the Ward 4 polling station at Ledge Street Elementary School.
