Auditorium to host Salem State lecture

Salem State University has chosen Lynn Memorial Auditorium, in City Hall, as the site of the spring lecture in its annual series, according to Karen Cady, Salem State’s senior director of university relations. The lecture will be held in early April. Begun in 1982, the popular Salem State Series features an annual spring and a fall lecture, which are normally held at the university’s O’Keefe Sports Center in Salem. The university decided to hold this year’s spring lecture in Lynn “to bring the series to a new community and a new area,” Cady said. “Also, we are putting on a new addition on the O’Keefe Center and it’s going to be a construction zone, so we thought it would be a good idea to put it in a different venue for the convenience of our series patrons.” Cady said Lynn’s auditorium is also a “beautiful venue.” “We are really excited,” said James Marsh, the city’s director of community development. “Our niche with the auditorium so far has been classic rock, Latin shows, and children’s productions. We are excited to venture out into the professional speaker’s market. What better way to do it than with a university.” The university is planning to announce this year’s speakers at the auditorium on Thursday at 6 p.m.
