Inspectors to collect property data

The Reading Board of Assessors has contracted with Patriot Properties Inc. to help the town collect data on approximately 3,600 Reading properties. The inspection program, which began Jan. 28 in the Joshua Eaton and Alice M. Barrows elementary school districts, is required by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. The inspection must be completed to secure state certification of all of the town’s assessments for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. Personnel involved in the data collection will have proper identification and a letter of authorization from the Board of Assessors. A full inspection will include an exterior visual inspection, which may include some measuring of the property, as well as an interior inspection to examine the property’s condition, interior grade, and finished living area. For more information, contact the assessing department at 781-942-9027 or by e-mail at
