Plans for Route 3 traffic solutions

The Northern Middlesex Council of Governments and traffic consultants Vanasse Hangen Brustlin of Watertown are studying long- and short-term solutions to the regular traffic backups that occur on Route 3 north to the Drum Hill rotary, as well as along Drum Hill Road, Westford Street, and the Rourke Bridge. Possible actions under consideration include widening the Drum Hill corridor to four lanes and widening the Rourke Bridge to four lanes. Traffic signals are also being reviewed to see if different timing could improve traffic flow. The fourth of five public meetings on the subject will take place in March, with the final meeting in May. For meeting location and details, visit www.nmcog.org.
