Outreach campaign funds surgery for sick puppy

A homeless puppy with a heart condition will be able to undergo corrective surgery, thanks to a successful public outreach campaign by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at Nevins Farm. Kisses, a three-month-old poodle-terrier mix who came to the MSPCA from a Springfield shelter, was diagnosed with patent ductus arteriosus, a condition that can lead to congestive heart failure. An online fund-raising campaign raised more than double the amount needed for Kisses’s surgery, which is expected to cost between $3,500 and $4,500. Once the 3-pound puppy is a bit bigger, she will undergo her operation, and will live with her new adoptive family in the Boston area. Any excess funds will go to help other MSPCA animals in need of surgery.
