Library bookmobile on the auction block

Beverly’s bookmobile, a relic from a bygone era in an age now defined by the Internet and hand-held digital readers, was recently up for sale on Municibid, an online government auction site. In its heyday, the 1987 Ford B-700 bookmobile delivered library books to retirement homes and day-care centers. In recent weeks, it has been known simply as listing #15056, a “very unique and hard-to-find vehicle” that “runs but needs work.” The red-and-white bus, with 108,401 miles on the odometer, went on the auction block on Valentine’s Day. By Monday afternoon, it had attracted 50 bids; the high bid stood at $1,116. The auction was scheduled to end Thursday.
