Meeting to reveal cost of new high school

Two key upcoming meetings focus on the town’s middle/high school construction project. The Board of Selectmen, School Committee, and Secondary School Building Committee are scheduled to hold a joint meeting March 11 to release the guaranteed maximum cost for construction of the new high school and renovation and addition to the middle school. The meeting has been tentatively scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Room 14 at Town Hall, 235 North St. Although the meeting date is firm, the time and location may change if a large number of residents express interest in attending, so residents are advised to confirm the meeting location before heading to Town Hall. Voters had approved a $107.7 million project last year. However, costs are higher than anticipated due to site issues and changes in the construction market. Three days after the guaranteed maximum cost is released, at 7 p.m. March 14, town officials will hold an informational meeting in the high school auditorium to provide a detailed presentation on the tax repercussions of any additional funds needed to maintain the scope of the project.
