The Board of Aldermen has decided not to hold a special election to replace Ward 8 representative Roland Laplante. Laplante, 79, a Democrat, announced his resignation due to heath concerns on Feb. 20, a day after the city held a special election to replace state representative-elect Stacie Laughton, who resigned before taking her seat. That election cost the city $2,000. The Board of Aldermen decided to take the advice of city clerk Paul Bergeron and not hold a special election to fill Laplante’s seat, but to wait until the next city election in November.
