Council considers pay increases for officials

The City Council at its meeting Thursday will consider final adoption of proposed pay increases for the mayor, city councillors, and School Committee members. The mayor’s pay would rise from $94,933 to $105,000, effective July 1. Councilors’ pay, currently $7,466, would be set at 9 percent of the mayor’s salary, effective in January 2014. Based on a mayoral salary of $105,000, the councilors’ pay at that time would be $9,450. The pay of School Committee members would rise from $4,000 to $5,100. The council will also hold public hearings on special permit applications from Sunoco to replace existing manual price boards with electronic boards at Sunoco gas stations at 1 Lynn St. and 144 Newbury St. (Route 1 south).
