Nomination papers available for town election

Nomination papers are available at the town clerk’s office until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 22, for candidates seeking office at the May 14 annual town election. Papers must be returned with the signatures of at least 27 registered voters by March 26, at 5 p.m. for a candidate to be listed on the ballot. This year, residents will vote to elect candidates for Board of Selectmen (two), moderator, constable, assessor, Planning Board (two), Municipal Light Board, Municipal Water Board, shellfish constable, cemetery commissioner, Board of Library Trustees (five), and Triton Regional School Committee (two). Incumbent Constable Nathaniel Dummer and shellfish constable Charles Hazen have both told town clerk Susan Hazen that they do not plan to run for reelection, and at press time no candidate had taken out papers for one of the library trustee and one of the Planning Board positions, she said. The last day to register to vote is April 16. The town clerk’s office is at Town Hall, Main Street (Route 1A).
