Town receives housing funds

The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development has awarded $83,854 to Reading for fiscal 2015, which begins July 1, 2014, to help cover the cost of public housing improvement projects. The fiscal 2015 funding award was granted upon approval of the Capital Improvement Plan that was submitted to state officials by the Reading Housing Authority earlier this year. That plan calls for energy upgrades in the town’s public housing developments, according to a press release issued by state Representative Bradley H. Jones Jr., a North Reading Republican. “This award will give Reading the resources necessary to improve the conditions of its public housing,” Jones said. “I am grateful that the town is a recipient of this extended funding award, and I look forward to the positive impact it will undoubtedly have on our community.”
