Town meeting set for Saturday

The annual Town Meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Abbot Elementary School gymnasium, 25 Depot St. Voters will consider 28 articles, including the proposed budget for fiscal 2014, which begins July 1, and a capital appropriation to buy emergency medical service equipment. The Board of Selectmen, School Committee, and Finance Committee all voted to support the town’s $98.4 million spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year. The proposed budget represents a 3.98 percent increase in spending over the current fiscal year to provide a slight increase in services for the town’s public schools and the public safety and permitting departments.
