The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce is seeking applicants for its 2013 scholarships. This year the chamber will award four $500 scholarships and one $1,000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors. The $500 scholarship awards were created in memory of John “Jack” F. Mahoney Jr. and Kathleen E. Bray, community and chamber members who built businesses in Stoneham and gave back to the town. The chamber’s $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a business-oriented career. Applicants must be either the child or grandchild of a member in good standing of the chamber, or an employee of a member in good standing. Requirements include two letters of reference, an essay, and a current official high school transcript. Applications are available in the guidance departments at Stoneham High School and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. All applications must be returned to the chamber office at 271 Main St. by May 3.
