The Ipswich-based Eastern Essex Department of Veterans Services was recently awarded the 2013 Outstanding District Award from the state’s Departments of Veterans’ Services. The district, run by director Terrance Hart from offices in Ipswich Town Hall, serves veterans and surviving spouses and dependents in Ipswich, Essex, Hamilton, Wenham, Georgetown, Rowley, and West Newbury. The towns have a combined population of 47,592, and an estimated veteran population of 3,486. There are 25 veterans’ districts in the state, and the award honors a district “providing support to neighboring towns and cities, for assisting other Commonwealth cities and towns in developing properly constituted districts, and for ensuring that district member towns receive the maximum reimbursement for veterans’ benefits disbursed,” according to a release. For more information, contact Hart at 978-356-3915 or at e.essex.vets@verizon.net.
