Bank hosts shredding day

StonehamBank is hosting a community shred day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 11 in the parking lot of its Stoneham branch at 80 Montvale Ave. Once papers are shredded, they are recycled on-site by Shred-it, a company that specializes in document destruction, using an industrial-grade shredder. To further promote going green, StonehamBank employees will be on hand to educate customers about electronic statement options. During the Shred Day event, StonehamBank will collect nonperishable grocery items, paper products, household cleaners, and diapers in larger sizes. The items will be donated to the Stoneham food pantry. Kim Savage of the Stoneham Food Pantry said the organization serves ”approximately 100 families with at least six new families each month.” Most often, she noted, “families look for treats such as cereal, snacks, cookies, and chips, for their children, as well as adults on limited incomes. Also, paper products, laundry detergent, and toiletries including diapers in larger sizes and wipes are sought after, as they cannot be purchased with food stamps.” For more information, call 1-888-402-2265 or visit
