The third annual Revere Shines, a citywide cleanup effort, will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. About 400 volunteers took part last year and the city is anticipating a larger turnout this year. Some 40 organizations have committed more than 300 volunteers, who will meet at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Building, 249 Broadway, and then disperse to different areas of the city to pick up litter and do other beautification work. At noon, all participants are invited to return to the American Legion for a celebration featuring refreshments and a DJ. The MBTA is also participating in the day by hosting a special community recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wonderland station parking lot. Residents can drop off electronic items, metals, electrical equipment, toys, appliances, and yard and power equipment. Disposal is free for all items, except televisions, which cost 35 cents a pound.
