Earth Day drop-off next weekend

The town is holding a special Earth Day Zero Waste Weekend next Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at the high school parking lot on Cabot Road. The Department of Public Works is organizing the drop-off in collaboration with several nonprofits and companies. Residents can bring bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linens, stuffed animals, and small toys for Big Brother Big Sister. XTechnology Global will collect electronics, including televisions and computer monitors, with fees charged for some items. Got Books will collect books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, audio books, and records. JRM will shred up to two boxes of confidential papers for each household for free, with a $5 fee for subsequent boxes. It will also collect rigid plastics. Metal items such as file cabinets and grills will be collected for recycling by the town. The town will also sell discounted compost bins and rain barrels. On Sunday only, ReFoamIt will collect Styrofoam through the sponsorship of EMD Millipore Corp. On Saturday only, Cub Scout Pack 16will collect redeemable bottles and cans.
