Fund assists elderly in need

Mystic Valley Elder Services has established a fund dedicated to assisting Wakefield elders who face an urgent need, meet certain eligibility requirements, and have nowhere else to turn for help. The Elizabeth E. Boit Fund was created when trustees of the nonprofit Boit Home decided to sell the independent living home and transfer the organization’s assets to the regional agency, which provides services to older people and adults with disabilities. Wakefield elders can apply for assistance under the new fund for needs including dentures and hearing aids, and help pay for oil deliveries. The fund will also be used to support the food pantry for elders in Wakefield, to expand exercise programs at the senior center, and to support wellness symposiums for seniors. Any senior interested in applying for the new fund or who wants to inquire about other services available from Mystic Valley can contact the agency at 781-324-7705.
