Beautification Committee hosts cleanup day

The Salem Beautification Committee is organizing a community cleanup day on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Volunteers will pick up trash around the city. The meeting place is Leslie’s Retreat Dog Park, near the intersection of North and Commercial streets. A thank-you party for volunteers featuring live entertainment will be held at the park from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the park, SalemRecycles — the city’s recycling committee — will hold a “Swap ’n’ Drop,” in which people can drop off or pick up dry textiles and small household goods. The MBTA is also participating in the day by hosting a special community recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salem commuter rail parking lot on Bridge Street. Residents can drop off electronic items, metals, electrical equipment, toys, appliances, and yard and power equipment. Disposal is free for all items, except televisions, which cost 35 cents a pound.
