Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis to deliver UMass Lowell commencement address

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis has been named as the commencement speaker for the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s undergraduate ceremony on May 18. Davis is a Lowell native who served as superintendent of that city’s Police Department for 12 years before leaving to lead the Boston force in 2006. UMass Chancellor Marty Meehan, who has known Davis for 30 years, said he was chosen as an exemplary role model who demonstrates the ability to employ top-notch skills and strong character in times of crisis. Davis was seen as a consistent source of leadership and strength in the days following the Boston Marathon bombings. The undergraduate commencement will include a record number of graduates, with 3,169 students receiving degrees.
