Town Meeting to address budget, marijuana

The annual Town Meeting convenes on Monday at 8 p.m. at the high school. Key items of business will include a proposed $88.5 million fiscal 2014 budget, and a temporary moratorium on the location of medical marijuana dispensaries in town. In other business, the meeting will take up a proposal that would limit the proximity of Level 3 registered sex offenders from locations where children, the elderly, or people with mental retardation congregate. It will consider an article modifying the town’s dog bylaw to comply with new state regulations and increase the licensing fee for nonneutered dogs; and a measure to amend the town’s wetlands protection bylaw. The meeting will consider budgets of $6.1 million for its sewer system and $5.6 million for its water system. Other spending requests include $1.25 million to design an upgrade to the town’s water treatment plant; $635,368 for one-time general government expenses, including the purchase of a dump truck with a plow and sander, and $608,345 for one-time school expenses.
