Selectmen hold hearing on Pirie property

The Board of Selectmen has scheduled a public hearing on Thursday to obtain public input prior to making a decision on whether to purchase the 87-acre Pirie property at 641 Bay Road. The town holds the right of first refusal on the property, which has an approximate value of $4 million. The purchase would require a two-thirds vote at a Special Town Meeting and likely a debt exclusion, according to Town Manager Michael Lombardo, who indicated that the land could be used for open space and to address various housing needs. The public hearing is scheduled for the Winthrop Elementary School, 325 Bay Road, at 7 p.m.
