Park committee seeks funds for improvements

The Parks Committee is seeking to raise the remaining funds needed to complete a project to build a new playground and make other improvements to Pico Park. The committee raised $7,500 at a Family Fun Night at the Cottage Park Yacht Cub on May 11, leaving it $7,500 shy of the overall funds needed, according to Dawn Sullivan, the group’s chairwoman. Previously, the committee had secured $45,000 for the project, including $25,000 from the town, $5,000 from a state grant, and $15,000 from the sale of commemorative bricks for a brick pathway. The small park is on the harbor off Sunnyside Avenue. The initial stages of the project began last fall. Sullivan said sufficient funds are in place for the town to move forward with installing the new playground equipment and the brick walkway in June. The additional funds now sought are needed to complete construction of a new street hockey park and to make finishing touches to the park.
