Officials cut ribbons for Mill Dam

State Senator Bruce Tarr, a Gloucester Republican, and state Representative Ann-Margaret Ferrante, a Gloucester Democrat, joined town officials to cut the ribbon at a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the $1.3 million project to rebuild Rockport’s Mill Dam last month. Sam Coulbourn, chairman of the Millbrook Meadow Committee, said that while the work was completed in January, the committee waited to dedicate it during a more picturesque time of year. With funding obtained from multiple sources, including some granted at Town Meeting, the town is planning to restore and improve Mill Pond on one side of the dam and Millbrook Meadow on the other. At the ceremony, the committee announced the winner of a children’s contest to name a snapping turtle in the pond. Mariah Colbert named the 2-foot-long turtle Fluffy.
