Two parking lots in Malden center will close in coming weeks as construction starts on new apartment complexes. The Dartmouth Street parking lot will close June 21, and the Florence Street parking lot, located behind the Heritage Apartments near Malden Government Center, will close July 1. An 80-unit apartment building will be built on the Florence Street site, and a mixed-use building with 195 housing units, retail space, and a parking garage will be built at the Dartmouth Street location. A small municipal lot will replace the Florence Street lot in about a year, and the Dartmouth Street parking garage will open in about two years, according to the Malden Redevelopment Authority. The Central Business District Parking Garage on Centre Street will have $2 hourly parking while the lots are closed.
