A group of churches has met its fund-raising goal for a new playground at Kelleher Park. Informally known as the Kelleher Park Playground Project, the group is a collaboration of four local churches: the First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist; Central Congregational Church; Belleville Congregational Church; and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Newburyport. During the past three months, the churches raised more than $45,000, surpassing their goal of $35,000. The churches hope to have new playground equipment installed by the end of the summer. An old playground in the park was torn down two years ago after it was deemed to be dangerous.
