Selectmen approve police, fire contracts

The Wenham Board of Selectmen recently approved contracts for the bargaining units for police and call firefighters. Both groups agreed to three-year contracts, beginning July 1. The call firefighter contract called for 2 percent raises each year, while the police union accepted 1½ percent in the first year and 2¼ percent in the two subsequent years. The police officers also agreed to allow the town to take 10 percent of their out-of-town detail work, which Town Administrator Mark Andrews said would work out to $10,000 to $15,000 annually. The contract still needs final approval from the Finance Committee, which is expected to address the matter at its June 26 meeting.
