Seniors work to lower taxes, water bills

Seniors have an opportunity again this year to lower their annual property taxes or water bills by doing volunteer work for the city through Revere’s Senior Citizen Work-Off Abatement . Under the program, seniors perform work for various city departments in return for an abatement on their taxes or a reduction on their water bills. This year, up to 100 seniors will each work 62.5 hours at an hourly rate of $8 per hour. Half of the seniors will receive a $500 tax abatement, and the other half a $500 water bill reduction. Participants must be at least 60 years old, have a primary residence in Revere in which they have an ownership interest, and earn no more than $45,000 for an individual or $55,000 for a married couple. Applications are available in the mayor’s office and must be returned by July 6. For more information, call the mayor’s office at 781-286-8111.
