Event celebrates cancer survivors

The Commonwealth Newburyport Cancer Center, in partnership with Tough Warrior Princess, is scheduled to present the community’s annual cancer survivor celebration, “A Flight of Hope and Strength, Courage and Love,” at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Market Square. The event celebrates the arts and their effect on cancer survivors, and will feature free beauty services, a dance performance by Rap ‘N Tap’s Alexa Mellon, and the humor and song of Denise DeSimone, a Newburyport resident and Stage 4 throat and neck cancer survivor. Weather permitting, the evening will end with a survivor butterfly release along the Merrimack River. Admission is free for cancer survivors and a guest. Space is limited.
