Farmers market opens season Tuesday

The town’s farmers market begins its new season Tuesday. The outdoor market this year has a new location and a new name. Until now, the market operated in the parking lot of St. Margaret Church on Jackson Street in Cliftondale, and was known as the Cliftondale Market. This year it will be held in the parking lot of Anna Parker Playground at 120 Essex St., and will be known as the Essex Street Farmers Market, according to Michele Wendell, who is the town’s purchasing assistant and oversees the market. Shifting the market to town property will enable the town to expand its hours of operation, Wendell said. This year, the market will be open every Tuesday through Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cider Hill Farm of Amesbury will be back selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers, as well as homemade goods, while Roberto’s Seafood will offer fresh seafood. Additional vendors are being sought. Anyone who would like to participate is asked to contact Wendell at mwendell@saugus-ma.gov.
