Project Bassoon is underway

Parker Middle School students Julianne Mulvey and Alexandra Nazzaro last month launched Project Bassoon to raise money to buy a bassoon for the school’s music program. The pair of eighth graders is hoping to raise $4,395 to cover the cost of the woodwind instrument; to date, they have raised more than half that amount. If the girls meet their goal, students at Parker will have an opportunity to play the bassoon in the band. Nazzaro, who plays the flute, and Mulvey, a bassoonist in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Repertory Orchestra, are hoping the addition of the instrument will encourage other students to get involved in music. Contributions to Project Bassoon are tax-deductible. Checks may be made payable to Parker PTO. Please write “Project Bassoon” on the memo line and mail to Parker Middle School, 45 Temple St., Reading, MA 01867. For more information, visit
