Rep. Lewis is named legislator of the year

Democratic state Representative Jason M. Lewis of Winchester has been named legislator of the year by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council in recognition of his leadership in promoting smart growth and fostering regional collaboration. Lewis received the honor at the regional planning agency’s annual meeting in Quincy on May 29. Lewis, who is serving his third term on Beacon Hill, represents Winchester and Stoneham. During his tenure, Lewis, who is the House vice chairman of the Joint Committee on Public Health, has worked to promote health and wellness initiatives. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council is a regional planning agency serving people who live and work in the 101 cities and towns of metro Boston. The agency strives to promote sound municipal management, sustainable land use, protection of natural resources, efficient and affordable transportation, a diverse housing stock, public safety, economic development, and equity and opportunity among people of all backgrounds.
