Flint Memorial Library now offers patrons free access to millions of songs from more than 10,000 labels, including the Sony Music catalog, via Freegal Music, a website that provides downloads in the MP3 format. The service will work with any MP3 player, including iPods, and can be loaded into iTunes. It works with both PCs and Macs, and can be accessed on iOS and Android devices using the company’s mobile apps. According to library director Helena Minton, the library’s 7,000 card holders will be able to download up to three songs per week. The library began offering access to the service on July 11, thanks to a state grant that allowed it to secure a one-year subscription to Freegal Music. The library may renew the service if patrons enjoy using it, she said, noting that several other area libraries, including Wilmington’s, have had subscriptions to Freegal for some time.
