At Special Town Meeting on Aug. 5, approximately 105 residents unanimously approved both articles on the warrant, including spending $600,000 to settle a lawsuit against the town filed by Haverhill, Aggregate Industries, and Northeast Region Inc. that wants the town to pay a share of the costs for the Environmental Protection Agency-mandated capping of the former Haverhill landfill. Finance director Greg Labreque said the money will be paid from the stabilization fund. Residents also approved the transfer of $20,000 within the Police Department budget to fund additional patrol shifts. The meeting, which included a presentation from the town’s lawyer, William Hewig of Kopleman and Paige, took approximately one hour.
