Board developing medical marijuana zoning bylaw

The Planning Board has begun developing a zoning bylaw to regulate where medical marijuana dispensaries may set locate in the town. Board members hope to have the proposal ready for consideration by a Special Town Meeting in early 2014, according to Kate Day, the town’s senior planner. The Special Town Meeting is also expected to take up other zoning measures. The 2012 ballot law legalizing medical marijuana allows for up to 35 nonprofit medical marijuana centers in Massachusetts, with at least one in each county. The annual Town Meeting last May 20 adopted a temporary moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries in Danvers to allow the town time to develop a zoning bylaw.
