A Methuen man is facing charges of unarmed robbery, assault with intent to maim, receiving stolen property over $250, and assault and battery after he knocked a woman to the ground outside of the TD Bank branch at 547 Broadway and escaped with her purse. The woman told police that she and her assailant struggled before he bit her to get her bag. Derek Rodriguez, 33, of 7 Arnold St., was later arrested after police sent a signal to his cellphone and were able to track his whereabouts. He had fled in his car, headed for Salem, N.H., but was caught on Broadway near Center Street, arrested, and held on $10,000 bail.
