Board narrows search for college president

The board of trustees at North Shore Community College recently chose five finalists for the position of college president. Wildolfo Arvelo, L. Joy Gates Black, Patricia Gentile, Gena Glickman, and Janet Sortor were recommended by a search committee from a group of 72 original applicants to succeed Wayne Burton, who retired as president on July 31. Each will visit the college’s Danvers and Lynn campuses for two days in September to meet with college and community stakeholders and to be interviewed by the board in public sessions. Arvelo is president of Great Bay Community College in New Hampshire. Black is vice chancellor for student success at Tarrant County College in Texas. Gentile is dean of advancement, enrollment management & Cape May County Campus at Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey. Glickman is president of Manchester Community College in Connecticut. Sortor is vice president and dean of academic affairs at Southern Maine Community College. The trustees are expected to make a recommendation for a new president to the state Department of Higher Education by the first week of October.
