Team Haverhill plans to move forward with renovations of the Portland Street Playground, despite the fact that the project did not receive a grant from Kaboom!, a nonprofit organization that helps build playgrounds nationwide. Although it lost a bid for an $85,000 grant, the independent volunteer action group still hopes to begin renovations by next spring. According to Alice Mann, president of Team Haverhill, the project will focus on a new children’s playground and rebuilding a basketball court. To date, Team Haverhill has received a $25,000 commitment from the city, a pledge the civic group has agreed to match. However, to make the project a success, volunteers at all levels also are needed. If interested, e-mail email@example.com.
