Paint Day auction brings in $20k

Artists produced 125 pieces of art yielding about $20,000 in sales during Essex’s second annual Paint Essex Day and Wet Paint Auction on Saturday, Aug. 17. About 80 area artists set up all over town during the day, and about 150 people met for a reception and auction at the Essex County Greenbelt Association’s Cox Reservation, 82 Eastern Ave, later that evening. Half the money raised went to the Essex Merchants Group, which promotes Essex as a tourist and day destination. The group also intends to establish an annual scholarship to benefit a local art student. “Everything improved over last year,” said Robert Coviello, founder and chairman of the Essex Merchants Group. “We’re looking forward to having the same kind of success year after year after year.”
