A student and a recent graduate of Salem State University spent portions of their summer working as interns in the Washington office of US Senator Elizabeth Warren. Michael Carney, who graduated in May, interned in Warren’s office during June, and Alex Booker, who graduates next year, interned during August. The two were able to serve in the Capitol as part of a long-running cooperative program that Salem State’s political science department ran with then-senator John F. Kerry and has continued with his successor. At Salem State, Carney, of North Andover, was active in the Political Science Academy, Amnesty International, and the economics club. Booker, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, was elected in May as the student trustee on Salem State’s board of trustees for this academic year. He is also a member of the Pre-Law Society and president of the Political Science Academy.
