A costume parade and 100-pound pumpkins carved by chain saws will be part of Somerville’s final SomerStreets event this year. The celebration will be held on Somerville Avenue on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and is being called the “Monster Mashed-Up @ SomerStreets.” The SomerStreets events close busy streets to vehicles and open them up to cycling, walking, dancing, running, and other activities to promote physical activity, fresh foods, and reconnecting with neighborhoods and businesses. After a costume parade that starts at Bow Street at 12:30 p.m., there will be a children’s costume contest at Conway Park at 2 and an adult costume contest at the Bow Street stage at 3. A dog costume contest will be held at the RiverDog pet care and pet supplies store on Somerville Avenue in Union Square from noon to 2 p.m. Local restaurants, including Machu Picchu, Sally O’Brien’s, and Bull McCabe’s will host an Octoberfest, and there will be a rock climbing wall, hay rides, autumn craft fair, and live music.
