Town schedules Special Town Meeting

The town will hold a Special Town Meeting and its fall annual Town Meeting in the Winchester High School auditorium on Skillings Road Nov. 4. The Special Town Meeting is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by the fall annual Town Meeting at 8. During the Special Town Meeting, Town Meeting members will consider four articles. The first would appropriate funds for the remodeling and construction of an addition to Winchester High School; the second would transfer a 31,851-square-foot parcel to the care and custody of the School Committee to be used for high school and athletic purposes. Article 3 seeks funds for the construction of a culvert under Skillings athletic fields and surface grading for the reestablishment of a surface floodway. Article 4 would earmark money to support an independent review of the technical, legal, and economic feasibility of restoring the Aberjona River to the surface. During the fall annual Town Meeting, Town Meeting members will consider 17 articles, including a proposal to declare vacant the seats of Town Meeting members who failed to attend half or more of the Town Meeting sessions held during fiscal year 2013, which ended June 30, and an article that seeks money for a number of town projects, including chimney flashing and roof repairs at the Winchester Public Library, repairs to the Center Falls dam, and removal of an oil tank at the Muraco Elementary School.
