Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition urges safe drug disposal

Got old prescription drugs in your medicine cabinet? Take them to drop boxes located at police stations in Malden, Medford, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, and Wakefield. Expired or unused prescription drugs may be dropped off 24 hours a day at the boxes, located in the lobby of each station. The Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition is encouraging local residents to dispose of drugs there as part of its effort to prevent prescription drug abuse. “We’re trying to change people’s habits,” said Penelope Funaiole, prevention abuse coordinator at the Medford-based coalition. “We want children to learn that old prescription drugs should be disposed of properly.”
